The Way I Work

Working individually I use talking and other mediums to promote personal exploration, self-expression, insight and healing.

My aim is to accept you for who you are; to listen carefully and sensitively to the difficulties you are experiencing and to facilitate self-awareness, understanding and growth.

I would like to help you become more in tune with yourself. This could mean further self awareness, getting more in touch with your own wants and needs and increasing access to your own inner-peace, harmony, self-compassion and intuition… all qualities of which I value deeply and I hope to encourage and develop in my clients to enable them to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

To enable the healing and growth process, my model for counselling focuses on:

  • Building a trusting and respectful therapeutic relationship.
  • Exploring and working with the content of what you bring
  • Collaborative therapeutic planning. (For example, always giving you choice in how we work together).

As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I draw upon a number of psychotherapeutic approaches. These include person-centred, narrative, symbolic modelling, Neurolinguistic Programming, psychodynamic, motivational, nutritional and cognitive behavioural therapies. Often I incorporate Song Therapy and other creative disciplines into my work with clients. I am not currently offering Animal Assisted Therapy but may have capacity for this in the future when doing face-to-face sessions. I draw from a broad theoretical base with a wide repertoire of interventions, but you as a unique individual will always remain at the heart of our work together.

Notably, I avoid any mystification of the work I do, encouraging a collaborative and open dialogue and will draw on your own inherent wisdom and resources so you may become your own therapist when ready.

I specialise in the treatment of eating disorders, disordered eating and Obesity. These difficulties may include Anorexia, Bulimia, or Atypical forms of these disorders such as Orthorexia, Binge Eating or Compulsive Eating presentations. In such cases, I use the NCFED led BPS approved way of working which is integrative and evidence-based, utilising many of the therapeutic approaches listed above. This approved way of working has an excellent success rate and is highly regarded, used by an affiliation of professionals nationwide.

I also have significant training and experience working with a variety of other presenting issues such as stress, anxiety, phobias, depression, low self- esteem, loss and bereavement, abuse, trauma, addictions and relationship issues.

Sometimes these problems can be clearly identified and articulated. However, for some it may be a sense or feeling that something is not right or that life has become a struggle. If this sounds familiar, exploring this and speaking to a qualified therapist may be very helpful to you.

My email counselling service offers many of the above modalities but in the written form and is geared towards those with mild-moderate psychological difficulties. With this, there is a particular emphasis on self-help and self-development and session content may typically be more focused.

I am committed to an inclusive, multi-cultural & multi-ethnic attitude, valuing people from all backgrounds, abilities, religions, faiths & sexual orientations.

I continue to follow new ideas & thinking to challenge & enliven my practice. I regularly partake in ‘Continuous Professional Development’ activities (such as attending courses and conferences) and strive to apply my learning to my work.
